At 7:30 am, Monday, May 31st we arrived at the airport in Anchorage. My dad brought the truck, full of our 30 pieces of luggage. He also brought a luggage cart from Lake Clark Air, which was awesome to have! He, my mom and my aunt, Sis, all helped get us inside. There were the last teary good-byes and we were on our way.
The kids were all very helpful in getting the luggage on to the luggage belt. We kept about 3 Alaska Airlines desks busy weighing luggage, checking passports and tickets... We had two answers to prayer right then. AK checked all of our luggage at no extra charge, since we were connecting to British Airways. They also checked everything all the way through to Entebbe, so we would not have to deal with it again until we arrived.
Half way to Seattle Isaac pulled this light saber out of his backpack. I had no idea he had it with him! I think Samuel was fascinated with the toilet on the plane. He used the restroom about 8 times between Anchorage and Seattle (I'm not kidding)! Thankfully, our seats were close to the bathroom on all of our flights, so the kids could go by themselves, except for Malachi.
We were in Seattle for about 5 hours and then flew to 9 hours to London. We had a 9 hour lay-over there and got a (tiny) room, where I bathed all the kids and Leo caught a quick nap. After a dinner of fish and chips, we were on our way back to the airport.
Here are the kids all lined up with their backpacks, waiting for our bus back to the London airport. Malachi had just tipped over (his pack was a bit heavy for him!).
The kids all enjoyed their own personal tvs. Ned fell asleep watching something. I think they watched "How to Train Your Dragon" about 5 times each. Our flight from London to Johannesburg was about 11 hours.
Here are the kids with a bead Nelson Mandela at the Joberg airport. We had about 5 hours there. We found an empty spot upstairs in the airport for the kids to run. After awhile someone came out of the office nearby and asked us to go somewhere else :) Our 4 hour flight from SA to Entebbe was about 4 hours. Most of us slept nearly the whole way. We landed just as it was getting dark, but from what I could see out the window, it was beautiful! Everything is so green and the lake looked like the ocean. I think just about all the AIM folks in Entebbe met us at the airport. We were surprised and thankful that all 30 pieces of our luggage made it with us! Most of our luggage went to our house in Entebbe and we came to the Matoke Inn AIM Guesthouse about 40 minutes toward Kampala.
Here's Malachi in front of the guesthouse this morning. We all slept well and woke up about 5:30 this morning, which is pretty good considering! We're feeling rather loopy this afternoon but are trying to keep people awake so they'll sleep tonight.
This morning we walked to the Quality Shopping Center. This sign is just funny :) But we couldn't believe all the things available in the grocery store! They even have marshmallows. Since we have lived in Africa before, I think we are probably more appreciative than if we hadn't, but either way, we walked through the grocery store saying, "We are so spoiled!" We're super thankful for a good trip and to finally be here in Uganda. The good-byes were really tough, but to love well and be so loved is also a great thing! We know we are where God wants us, so there's nowhere else we'd rather be.

Love the update and all the pictures.....Going to miss you when I get up there. Keep the pictures coming and the good stories!
It's great to see and read about your trip. I love how the kids turn everything into something fun. God is going to do some great things!!
