November

Here are a couple of photos of the booth we had at the mission conference. Lacey Steele and her team did such a good job setting these up and decorating them!

Hello there~

I hope you've had a great first day of November! We enjoyed our extra hour before church this morning, as Daylight Savings began today. It kind of feels like the beginning of hibernation... the days are getting shorter, the temperature is getting colder. But I don't think we'll have much time to hibernate this winter!

Many of your prayed for us last week as we were part of the mission conference at the Church on the Rock in Wasilla. Thank you! We had a really good few days there and definitely learned a lot. We were able to connect with several other missionaries who serve in East Africa and I even got to try out my entire Luganda vocabulary (all 5 words!) on a sweet Ugandan lady we met at the conference. She seemed to know what I was saying, so that was fun. One of the most inspiring couples we got to meet were the Hawns. This amazing couple is in their 70s and they have recently moved to Kitale, Kenya. From Kitale, they drive hours out into the bush and camp with the Pokot people as they share the gospel with them. What an awesome testimony of how God can use people who are willing and obedient.
A highlight for Leo and me was spending time with Flo and Doris. For those of you who do not know these ladies, they served as missionaries in Nondalton (a village 22 miles south of here) for 23 years. I've got memories of staying at their house when I was a little girl, and eating moose tongue (it was actually really good!). Each of these precious ladies have served as missionaries in Alaska for 50 years. We had the privilege of spending a morning with Flo and Doris. They whooped me in bowling, but were very gracious about it! My only regret is that we forgot the camera at home. As we were bowling and having lunch together, Leo and I were so encouraged by the insight and wisdom Flo and Doris shared with us. I pray that one day, Leo and I will be able to love on other young missionaries with the grace and humility shown us by these two women of faith.

We were home for four days and now Leo and Ned are off again. They left Port Alsworth today and fly out of Anchorage tomorrow morning. They are planning to spend a couple of days in Indiana at Water for the World, where they hope to learn about their water purifiers. This organization has been active in helping provide clean water to those living in many third world countries, with a simple, inexpensive water purifier. Leo thought it would be good to go and check it out to see if it may be something we can work with in Uganda.

From there, they head to Kansas City, MO for the Crown Ignite training. This training will equip Leo to teach biblical financial principles in other cultures. After that, it's back to Cincinnati for a couple of days at the Creation Museum and then on to Washington state to spend time with Leo's family. Leo and Ned are scheduled to arrive back in Anchorage November 16th. We will be glad to see them!!!

Thank you for praying with us for good, safe travels for Leo and Ned. We are thankful they have this opportunity to go and learn and be equipped. We also pray they will be a blessing to Leo's parents while they are visiting. If you are new to our email updates, welcome! If you would like to be removed from the list, just let me know.

Serving together~Leo, Menda and Crew
